近代神學家與信徒重新燃起對theosis（神化）思想的興趣，重拾古代教會將神化視為基督教拯救論的基礎之了解。本書就是此風潮下產生的經典著作，內容分成五個部分，介紹與綜合分析古希臘、新約聖經、教父、中世紀、宗教改革時代，以及現代思想中對神化思想的理解。 

人成為神是一個迷人、激動人心、並滿有能力的宗教觀念。到底theosis（神化）是什麼意思？在知識的思想歷史中，這個術語的起源以及其觀念的發是什麼？對於彼後1:4中成為一個「與神的性情有分」者的應許，其背後原始的異象和產生的詮釋是什麼？里昂的愛任紐（Irenaeus of Lyon）在教導「神的道成為我們的所是，好使我們能成為祂自己的所是」的時候，以及亞他那修（Athanasius）宣告「神成為人，為了使人成為神」的時候，他們的意思是什麼？人類神化的過程是什麼？近代哲學和神學界對於人類成為神的問題又是什麼？這些問題都會由本書不同基督教傳統背景之專家的論文中，加以探討、印證，並說明神化的本質及其發展。

克里斯登森（Michael J. Christensen），耶魯大學神學院（Yale Divinity School）文學碩士，德魯大學（Drew University）博士。德魯大學牧範學博士課程主任，教授宗教學與靈修學。有八本著作，包括：C.S. Lewis on Scripture, Children of Chernobyl, The World After Chernobyl, The Heart of Henri Nouwen, Spiritual Direction，以及多篇論文。
